I love how it alternates between what happened 10 years ago, describing the things and experiments Victor and Eli are. I just read Vicious by V.E Schwab and it was SO good. I read any fantasy, contemporary, and essentially any genre but that one version of sci-fi. The general theme of the book is reminiscent of series such as Heroes, The OA, Twilight, and X-Men, only that in Vicious, the people with the superpowers are called ExtraOrdinaries. I’m not the sorta person to read thriller sci-fi books. But when their thesis moves from the academic to the experimental, things go horribly wrong. Schwab (I loved her 'Darker Shades of Magic' series'), so I didn't expect to dislike this novel so much. A shared research interest in adrenaline, near-death-experiences, and seemingly supernatural events reveals an intriguing possibility: that under the right conditions, someone could develop extraordinary abilities. Victor and Eli started out as college roommates-brilliant, arrogant, lonely boys who recognised the same sharpness and ambition in one another.
